Oprah Winfrey Advice #1: Be Wary of People Talking Behind Your Back

“When someone talks to you about other people, know that they’re talking about you behind your back, too,”

This is great advice, so simple, but so true.

Oprah mentioned this as the best career advice she ever received when accepting a Lifetime Achievement Golden Globe in 2018.

Oprah Winfrey Advice #2: Give Yourself a Day Off

“I always give myself Sundays as a spiritual base of renewal — a day when I do absolutely nothing.

I sit in my jammies or take a walk, and I allow myself time to BE — capital B-E — with myself.

When I don’t, I absolutely become stressed, irritable, anxiety-prone, and not the person I want to be in the world,”

Everyone needs some kind of release, for some it’s exercise, meditation, family, hobbies, but it’s so important to your mental health.

Oprah Winfrey Advice #3: Be Thankful for What You Have

“You radiate and generate more goodness for yourself when you’re aware of all you have and not focusing on your have-nots,”

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never have enough.”

Oprah said when explaining why she kept a nightly gratitude journal for a decade straight while building her television network.

Oprah Winfrey Advice #4: Focus on Just the Next Right Move

“The way through the challenge is to get still and ask yourself, ‘What is the next right move?’ Not think about, ‘Ooh, I got all of this to figure out.’ What is the next right move?

And then from that space, make the next right move and the next right move … then you won’t be overwhelmed by it, because you know your life is bigger than that one moment.”

Oprah said she spent most of her 20’s obsessing over what to do with her life.

She encourages young people to get the night move right and then build from there.

Thinking too far ahead can create needless pressure and anxiety.

Many of the 100 graduates 10 years out of university said the exact same. Now in their 30’s they look back at all the needless worrying they did bout their careers in their 20’s.

With hindsight, they realise that everything will work out and time spent worrying about something is a waste of energy.

Oprah Winfrey Advice #5: Embrace Failure

“Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.”

You can’t achieve great things instantly.

You are going to have to experience failure at some point in your life.

The very successful use these failures as feedback loops and become better and stronger as a result.

Oprah Winfrey Advice #6: Create a Big Vision for Your Life

“Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.”

If you can create a powerful image in your head of what you want to become and you have enough desire and determination to put in the work, you’d be surprised at what can happen!
